Legendary Indian pacemaker Venkatesh Prasad has stated that Ravindra Jadeja’s miss at the ICC T20 World Cup is regrettable, but India’s squad looks very balanced for the selection tournament. The dynamic all-rounder will have to miss due to an injury.
The pace legend also believed there is a lot of variety in current bowling offense but added that he would have liked to see experienced pacer Mohammed Shami in the squad, who is currently one of the standby players.
Venkatesh Prasad regrets the absence of Mohammed Shami in the main force
Pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel return to the side for the World Cup and for the Australia and South Africa home series. On the other hand, Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar have been included in the roster for the T20 World Cup as standby players and are also part of the rosters for the two home series.
“It’s a balanced squad, a really good one. It has great hitters and all-rounders. Jadeja missed but would have added more value. Bowling looks very good. There are many variations. They brought Arshdeep Singh as a left arm sailor, he brings a different angle. There is experienced Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar. However, I would have liked to see Shami,” Prasad said in an exclusive interview with ANI.
Players are selected solely on the basis of their performance on the national and international circuit
Prasad also said selectors have gone with tried and tested players who have performed well in national and international cricket and in IPL, and a lot of attention has been paid to performance.
“There is experience, balance. There is international T20 experience, also T20 experience. The last time we won the 2007 T20 World Cup, we had no experience. But compared to that, the current players have a lot of experience under their belt and I am hopeful that they will perform well. There is a high skill level”, he added.
