Jack Vidgen spoke candidly about his complex relationship with his mother, Rachel Hayton, on Wednesday’s episode of I’m a Celebrity.
The singer, 23, broke down in tears as he began to talk to his co-star Jess Eva about how much he missed his mother in the jungle.
In a moving confession, Jack also revealed how the ‘power dynamic’ between him and Rachel changed when he won the Australia’s Got Talent title at the age of 14, and left him feeling like the “ breadwinner ” of his family.

Jack said he ‘resented’ the responsibility that lay on him, but now regrets the way he treated his mother as a teenager.
“I miss my mom,” Jack said, before describing the single mom as a “caring and loving” person.
“She always worked three or four jobs just to keep a roof over our heads,” he added.

“Our relationship has been difficult over the years. When i won [Australia’s Got Talent], our dynamic changed completely and I was the breadwinner.
Jack went on to say that he felt like he was “becoming a parent” for a few years.
“ There was nothing she could do, but I almost felt like I was almost a parent myself. I have so much resentment now that I can’t control. I think here I’m just thinking about how I would have liked to have treated her better, ” he said.
Jess comforted Jack and said his mother would have forgiven him already.

“Through a mom’s eyes, moms don’t think that, that’s what kids do, they say mean things to parents,” Jess tells her.
She made Jack smile when she said, “ There wouldn’t be a mom on this planet who wouldn’t be proud of you, mate. My God, you are beautiful. I would have you as a child. You would have the best teeth in the family!

In January last year, as he prepared to bring his music back with the release of his single, he told Daily Mail Australia that his appearance at AGT sounded like ‘there is a life’.
Jack – who appeared on The Voice in 2019 – admitted he had to step away from the spotlight to “ grow up ” before returning to the public eye.
“ It’s pretty crazy looking back that this has happened. It was an incredible experience and I am very grateful for it.
He said he also felt his break with the industry was worth it.
“It was also really nice to have this break to relax and grow and be a kid for a little while and come back last year,” he explained.
“ I was able to come back to it after forming my own beliefs, my own onions and all that stuff and becoming an adult and coming back to the public eye and having a career in the music industry. ”
