India took a win in the 2nd T20I in Nagpur to keep pace in the three-match streak after losing the opening match. Reduced to 8 overs by rain, Rohit Sharma played a captaincy knock and scored a quickfire 46 runs on 20 deliveries to secure a win for the Men in Blue.
Following the same rules, opponent skipper Aaron Finch praised the Indian captain and also praised Axar Patel for his brilliant spell.
Rohit Sharma breaks Martin Guptill’s record for most sixes in T20 Internationals
At the post-match ceremony, Aaron Finch said: “You’re probably planning on playing a 5 over game and then a bit more. Rohit played brilliantly and two overs from Axar made all the difference. Wade is a quiet customer at the back and he’s grown into the role of that finisher. Zampa was good too.”
Rohit Sharma became the batter with the most sixes in T20Is. The 34-year-old reached the milestone in India’s second T20I against Australia at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. The 34-year-old passed New Zealand’s Martin Guptill to become the leading six-hitter in international cricket’s shortest format. Prior to the second T20I, Nagpur-born Rohit was level with Guptill at 172 sixes.
Rohit Sharma batted in his own world as wickets fell around him. Matthew Wade’s 43 from 20 balls led Australia to a score of 90/5 in a match that was reduced to eight overs per side game due to a two-hour delay caused by a wet outfield.
Rohit responded by scoring an unbeaten 46 from 20 balls and leading the Indian chase with brief cameos from KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya. Dinesh Karthik finished the match by hitting a six and a four on the first two balls of the latter left, the only ones he encountered in the entire match. The three-game series is now level 1-1.
