Former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria has questioned India’s batting order, claiming Virat Kohli should open in the upcoming T20 matches.
Kaneria believes that Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul should hit number 3.
In the opening T20I against Australia, Team India scored a substantial total of 208 runs. Even with a score like that, they couldn’t beat the Australians in Mohali. While up to three Indian batters have produced impressive batting totals, the team’s batting lineup has come under fire.
India captain Rohit Sharma is one of the batters under scrutiny after a series of underperformance. Former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria has also said that Rohit could hit No. 3 in the coming matches.
Rohit Sharma scores no points during opening: Danish Kaneria
Kaneria indicated that Rahul could fill the one-down spot and Virat Kohli could open with the India skipper if Rohit didn’t want to fall down in the batting order.
“During the opening, Rohit Sharma scores no points. That became apparent during the Asian Cup. He scores in sprints. Virat Kohli is also unable to score consistently from one deficit. You may have a good chance of taking down Rohit one, and Virat can open with KL Rahul.’
‘Alternatively, if Rohit is comfortable opening up, you can start with Virat and him. In that case, KL Rahul can be used as a down. It won’t be that big of a problemDanish Kaneria stated in a video on his YouTube channel.
Even Kohli struggled in the first T20I matchup with Australia. It is important to note that his century against Afghanistan came as the first run of the game. As a result, some former cricketers still wonder if Kohli should start in the shortest format.
Rahul, on the other hand, usually strikes as an opener for India, but has also occasionally struck in the middle of the order. At least until the T20 World Cup 2022, neither Rahul nor Rohit are likely to switch positions in batting order.
