Australia National Cricket Team Test skipper Pat Cummins has said he didn’t follow the recently concluded 2022 Asia Cup where Sri Lanka won, but saw contemporary batter Virat Kohli score his 71st international century in the tournament.

Kohli was on top form in the 2022 Asian Cup and he finished as the second highest finisher in the multinational tournament. He hit 276 runs in five games, including two fifties and a sensational century.

Cummins, who will lead the Australian bowling attack on the upcoming tour of India, said getting Kohli out for the Aussies will be a challenge.

“To be honest, I haven’t seen anything from that tournament. I think Sri Lanka won? Frankly, I haven’t seen any of it. I saw Virat Kohli, I think he scored a hundred, yes, he is a class player, he would always come back in form at some point. He’s going to be a challenge next week,” Cummins said on Sunday while answering a question from the The Bharat Express News.

The Australian Tour of India 2022 consists of a T20I series of three matches to be played in Mohali, Nagpur and Hyderabad on September 20, 23 and 25.

“I think a lot of games in India are played at a different pace than in Australia, the boundaries are normally a bit smaller. I think you have to adapt very quickly, you will have a few days where the wicket is a bit slower then cutters and things like that are very important to the bowlers.

“So everyone here has played a lot in India and everyone understands it. It’s a format you have to be ready for, and if it doesn’t work on the day then you have to get off it quickly,” he added.

Had a bit of a chat with him, and he said he’s in a good space – Pat Cummins on Aaron Finch

Speaking of skipper Aaron Finch, who recently retired from ODIs, Cummins said the veteran opener is in a good space.

“Just the normal Aaron Finch, he’s been great. I talked to him for a bit and he said he is in a good area. Even in the ODIs, he knew it was time in his own mind. He looks fantastic, it was only 12 months since he led us to a win in the T20 World Cup, so he is eager to go and he will be an important player as he always is.”
