IND vs AUS: “I believe KS Bharat is the best option” – Abhinav Mukund on India’s Red-Ball wicket-keeper dilemma

Team India lead-off batsman Abhinav Mukund provided some insight into the current wicket-keeper dilemma caused by Rishabh Pant’s tragic injury. Ishan Kishan got his first call-up and KS Bharat was also chosen for the test team for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia.

After veteran player Wriddhiman Saha was gradually dropped from the Test squad, Bharat was added to the mix. Pant’s great performance has yet to make his debut, but he has been reliable on the domestic circuit.

“To be fair, KS Bharat could also be associated with flamboyance. When he plays red-ball cricket, he moves at lightning speed. I’ve seen many things. Ordered on the route. I believe it should be KS Bharat as Bharat is Pant’s number two ever since Saha got suspended and Pant became number one.

So in that order I think Bharat is the best option. On closer inspection, however, it appears that there is only one left-hander in the line-up.” Abhinav Mukund added.

In the absence of KL Rahul, Kishan now takes over as ODI wicketkeeper. Due to family commitments, the Karantaka-born player was left out of the squad for the series against New Zealand.

Abhinav Mukund believes it is too early to exclude Dhawan from the ODI squad:

Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, among others, were not added to the ODI line-up for Team India’s current home season.

After the August 2022 tour of the Caribbean, Dhawan’s form suffered, and the development of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan as potential replacements has not helped matters.

Abhinav Mukund believes it is early to remove Dhawan completely from the ODI setup, using Dinesh Karthik as an example. He claimed:

“You know what, I said Dinesh Karthik was at his wits end yet he found himself competing in the T20 World Cup. Because of this, no one’s journey can ever come to an end. You never know; he could return to the scene after a successful IPL season. Yes. Never close their doors, anyone else’s or anything like that.”
