Former Australia captain Steve Smith suffered spasms during afternoon practice and is now uncertain whether he will be able to play in the Sixers’ final group game against the Hobart hurricanes on Monday. Nathan Lyon has also missed the Sixers’ last two games with a knee injury, raising concerns ahead of the Australian Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour, which kicks off in Nagpur on February 9.
India will host a four-match test series against Australia for the 2023 Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). The Pat Cummins-led side will be hoping for their first series win in India since 2004. Australia are 1st in the 2023 World Test Championship, while India second is in the points table. It will be the final test series for both teams and will decide their fate for the WTC final.

I’m having trouble standing up – Steve Smith
Speaking after the game, Steve Smith revealed that he had experienced back spasms in the afternoon, which made it difficult for him to fully bend, although he was able to bend slightly. Smith believes he and Lyon will be fit for the first Test against India.

“I had some spasms this afternoon. I struggle to get up. I can bend (forward) well, but getting into an extension is not ideal. It probably helped me in my at bat, kept me a little bit lower. It’s a little stiff, but hopefully I’ll get up okay. I’m pretty sure we’ll be fine.” said Steve Smith.

I’m in a good spot at the top of the order – Steve Smith
Steve Smith became the first player in Big Bash League (BBL) history to record two consecutive T20 hundreds after scoring his second BBL century. The 33-year-old added that he feels good to bat in the highest order.

“I just came here to play and enjoy myself and help the Sixers succeed. In my first three strokes I hit them all well. I feel like I’m in a good place at the top of the order. It’s a place I think most people probably enjoy batting. So far it’s very nice” he added.
