When host nation India welcomes current world champions Australia to the first game of the series on Tuesday, Indian captain Rohit Sharma could easily break a world record. With a three-game T20I series against the Aaron Finch-led team, Team India under Rohit begins preparations for the T20 World Cup.

At Mohali, Rohit, who has scored the most points in short format history, gets another chance to make history. In 136 games for the 2007 world winners, the Indian captain scored 3,620 points.

The veteran Indian opener, Hitman for his aggressive, standout style, scored 323 fours and 171 sixes in his historic T20I career. On the list of players with the most sixes in the shortest format, the 35-year-old ranks second. New Zealand’s Martin Guptill has hit the most sixes in T20 international cricket.

In 121 T20I games, the Kiwi opener has hit 172 sixes. So if Rohit wants to match Guptill’s performance in the first T20I against Australia, all he has to do is knock one-six. By hitting two sixes, Rohit can change the course of T20I cricket history and become the player with the most sixes ever.

Rohit Sharma has had a solid 2022 with the bat:

The Indian captain has had a solid 2022. In 17 games, he scored 423 runs at an average of 26.43. His bat has produced two half-centuries, with the highest score being 72. His stroke rate is 143.38. This year he hit a total of 21 sixes.
