Indian cricketer Gurkeerat Mann, who plays for Punjab in domestic cricket, has made a major revelation stating that Shubman Gill’s father, Lakhwinder Gill, was not entirely happy with his son’s match against Sri Lanka in the third ODI of the series of three games. Mann hoped that Shubman’s father would finally be happy turning his century into a double barrel.
Shubman Gill hit an amazing 116 runs off 97 balls including 14 fours and 2 sixes before being cleared by Kasun Rajitha in the 34th over while playing a crossed strike at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday 15th January.

Gurkeerat Mann revealed that Shubman’s father Lakhwinder was upset after being dismissed for 116 against Sri Lanka after making a brilliant start.
“You see how he comes out, even after he scored a century he had enough time to score a double century. He’s not always going to get these starts. When will he learn?” Gurkeerat Mann recounts the lamentation he heard from Shubman’s father in his hometown on Sunday, as quoted by The Bharat Express News.

Meanwhile, Shubman turned his century into a double century in the opener of the ODI series against New Zealand. He hit an astonishing 208 runs off 149 balls including 19 fours and 9 sixes at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on Wednesday 18th January.
Mann said Shubman’s father expects big things from the lead-off hitter. He added that he was pleased to see Shubman turn a good start into a big score.
“Lakhwinder paaji always had high expectations of Shubman. We all had, since childhood. It’s good to see him finally converting his starts and I hope Lakhwinder paaji will be happy today,” said Mann.
A cricketer of his caliber will always be under pressure to perform – Gurkeerat Mann on Shubman Gill
Mann went on to say that Shubman was never out of shape and that he consistently recorded double-digit scores. However, he feels the 23-year-old will always be under pressure to perform because people expect a lot from him.
“He always scored those 40s and 50s. But that century never came. The form was never a problem. A batter is out of shape if he struggles to get into double digits. He always got those starts. But a cricketer of his caliber will always be under pressure to perform. People will always expect him to score big runs.”
“He has realized that his strength lies in playing with a straight bat. In Bangladesh he got out playing a paddle sweep and even in the first ODI against Sri Lanka he was stuck up front playing a cross shot. He is learning every day and this is just the beginning of a great career,” Mann told The Bharat Express News.
