Unlike Pakistan, which forced Shaheen Afridi to participate, Denmark’s Kaneria thinks India made the right decision by not picking an ailing Jasprit Bumrah for the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022.
The former Pakistani spinner claimed in a video posted on his YouTube account that the PCB jeopardized Shaheen’s career by forcing him to play while not fully healthy, while the BCCI prioritized Bumrah’s career. He believed the break would allow the Indian speedster to serve his country for a longer period of time.
Danish Kaneria criticizes Pakistan council for treatment of Shaheen Afridi
The Danish Kaneria criticized the Pakistani administration for its harsh treatment of Shaheen. Highlighting that the Men in Green possessed a number of skilled fast bowlers who might have taken the left arm in the championship match, he explained:
“Jasprit Bumrah was made to play the home series against Australia after recovering from a back injury. However, his injury came back. He was rested for the 2022 T20 World Cup even though Rohit Sharma knew that Bumrah’s absence would be a major setback for the team.
“India did the right thing by not jeopardizing his career. In doing so, they ensured that he could serve the team for a long time.”
“Pakistan, on the other hand, sent an injured Shaheen Afridi to the Netherlands. He then traveled to the UAE and later had to go to London for his rehabilitation. The PCB and Babar Azam forced him to play in the T20 World Cup despite injury concerns.
“You can’t injustice like that to a player and it’s not fair for them to play with someone’s career like that. I feel like it will take another three or four months for him to recover. Couldn’t they have trusted their other bowlers? He gave his heart, but you forced him to play games after he had injections.
Shaheen took part in every match of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign in Australia. However, the young player injured his knee while grabbing the championship and stumbled off the field.
Together with Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan veteran hitter Fakhar Zaman struggled with his fitness throughout the game. The southpaw played in just one match before suffering a knee ailment that forced him to withdraw from the event.
Babar Azam didn’t want Fakhar to play Zaman: Danish Kaneria
Denmark’s Kaneria claimed that Pakistan disqualified Fakhar solely because captain Babar Azam refused to give up his starting position. He claimed that in order to accommodate Fakhar, the captain should have hit number 3, which he had not intended.
Danish Kaneria added:
“Fakhar Zaman only played one match, and then they rested him and said he was injured. Suddenly he is fit again after the T20 World Cup.
“Babar would have had to lower the batting order if Fakhar had been available. He didn’t want Fakhar to play. Babar played Shaheen despite worrying about injuries, but with Fakhar, he deliberately left him out.
The Babar Azam-led team lost to England by five wickets in the Championship match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to take them second overall in ICC competition.
