The 28-year-old India National Cricket Team pacer with right arm Mohammed Siraj has stated that his 4-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in the third ODI was his best spell in 50-over cricket for India.
Mohammed Siraj bowled the new ball extremely well as he defended a giant target in the third ODI at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday 15 January.

He dismissed Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Nuwanidu Fernando and Wanindu Hasaranga in the first 10 overs. Then, on the 4th ball of the 12th, he ran out Chamika Karunaratne with a brilliant direct hit.
Siraj ended his spell with a career best figure of 10-1-32-4, sadly missing out on a much-deserved 5-wicket haul. In a video shared on Twitter by the BCCI, Siraj said:

“This was my best spell in ODIs as I hadn’t picked up 4 wickets so far. Even if I had 3 wickets here it would have been good because the way I released the ball, the way I bowled the outswing deliveries and the wobble seam, it made me very happy.
The run-out was excellent – Mohammed Siraj
On the 4th ball from the 12th over, Mohammed Siraj bowled a full-length delivery to Chamika Karunaratne and the Sri Lankan all-rounder defended it quite well and held his pose. Siraj quickly picked up the ball and tossed it back to the stumps. Karunaratne was caught off guard and fled. While speaking about the run-out, Siraj said:
“Speaking of the run-out, I told the batsman something. Whenever a batsman comes forward to defend, it frustrates me greatly. So I told him something and then he came up with a forefoot defense and I just picked up the ball and threw it at the stumps. The run-out was excellent.”
The 28-year-old pacer defeated Sri Lankan bowling all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga for 1 with a nice inswinger in the game. Speaking about the layoff, he said:
“When I started bowling to (Wanindu) Hasaranga, I bowled three outswingers and then I thought I had to bowl my wobble because he was just trying to throw his bat away without any foot movement. I thought I was supposed to bowl a scrambled seam and I got that wicket so I was pretty happy.
India next take on New Zealand in a six match limited overs series. The 2023 New Zealand Tour of India consists of three ODIs and three T20Is. The ODIs will be played on January 18, 21 and 24 in Hyderabad, Raipur and Indore respectively. While the T20Is will be played on January 27, 29 and February 1 in Ranchi, Lucknow and Ahmedabad respectively.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj said he is very excited to play his first ever international match in front of a home crowd in Hyderabad. He said:
“I am very happy, because it will be my first international match on my own field. I want to say to the fans ‘see you in Hyderabad’.”
