New Zealand cricket team recorded a thumping victory against India in the 1st ODI. The Black Caps were quite clinical during the chase. Skipper Kane Williamson silenced all critics by beating an unbeaten run of 94 runs in 98 balls where he hit 7 fours and 1 six.
India would be disappointed as they missed a golden opportunity to stamp their authority in the ODI series. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan should not have allowed Kane Williamson and Tom Latham to get their eye on them as the duo later unleashed the attack and dismantled the bowlers.
Wasim Jaffer on Umran Malik
Wasim Jaffer interacted with The Bharat Express News and was asked about Umran Malik.
“As the game gets bigger, you have to have more skills, something that they (Arshdeep & Umran) will learn. I think this format suits Umran more than T20s. We’ve seen in the IPL that he doesn’t have that many variations compared to bowling in this format where you have to bowl that line and length a lot more because he can use that short ball length. Jaffer said.
Wake up call for India
Head Coach VVS Laxman & Skipper Shikhar Dhawan will need to find a 6th bowling option that can provide 3-4 overs for the team.
Management can play Shardul Thakur as a batter because we all know that he can hit and drop one of Suryakumar Yadav or Sanju Samson. There are chances that Suryakumar will be rested for the 2nd ODI as he has been playing non-stop cricket.
New Zealand have set a new record as they have now won 13 consecutive New Zealand ODI matches as of 2019 which is quite an achievement. The Black Caps have a unique ability to throw surprises, making them a dangerous unit.
With 2 ODIs left, we can expect a sparkling comeback from India as we’ve all seen how ruthless India can be; the way they beat South Africa after a 1-0 victory says a lot about the dynamics of the team.
