IND vs NZ: “Won’t get a return on such an investment” – Atul Wassan on India keeping Rohit Sharma as T20I captain

Former India National Cricket Team player Atul Wassan, who played 4 Tests and 9 ODIs for the top tier Men In Blue, has said the Indian team will not get a return on investment if Rohit Sharma is retained as T20I in future captain .

Rohit took over as full-time T20I skipper after Virat Kohli stepped down following the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the UAE. Under Rohit’s leadership, the Men In Blue achieved a dominant bilateral series-winning streak, but failed to capture the 2022 Asia Cup title and the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup championship. India in particular did not even reach the finals of the two major tournaments.

Former cricketer Atul Wassan claimed that Rohit’s time as T20I skipper is over and the BCCI should appoint a new T20I captain. He also expressed his disappointment at India’s embarrassing 10-wicket defeat to England in the second semi-final of the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

“Yes, I feel (that Rohit’s time as T20 captain in India is over). You always plan between World Cups and I don’t think Indian cricket will gain anything by keeping him as captain. We get nothing in return for such an investment. You have two options in front of you – Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant. I’m still beside myself, can’t believe what happened. I felt like India was batting in Adelaide and England in Sharjah,” Wassan told ABP News.

Rohit Sharma did not take any calls. He only decided where to hide on the field – Atul Wassan

Wassan also made a bold statement saying that Rohit “didn’t answer any calls” during the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, and that all decisions were made by the team management.

“We could see cricketers of two levels. At least something should have happened. You can’t even find a fault. I don’t think you can blame the captain. After all, it was the team management who made all the decisions. Rohit Sharma did not take any calls. He only decided where to hide on the field,” Wassan added.
