India will take on Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the three-match ODI series at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday, January 12. The hosts hope to clinch the series before the final game. Former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra believes Team India should aim for a score of 400 runs in the second ODI.

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli scored a century, and openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored half-centuries as India recorded a massive 373 for the loss of seven wickets. The bowlers then limited the Dasun Shanaka-led side to 306/8 and won the match by 67 runs to take a 1–0 lead in the series.

400 can also be scored here – Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra predicted a high-scoring match at Eden Gardens and said the Men in Blue should score 400 runs.

“India has hit a lot in Barsapara. Earlier we always said you can change the style of play, what style can you change now? Fair is fair, 400 points could have been scored. You can also score 400 here. If that’s possible, why not go and achieve that goal?” said Aakash Chopra.

“It’s kind of become a rule in ODIs that it seems very easy to score a lot of points. It doesn’t look like it will be a low scoring game unless you play in Bangladesh where the pitch changes a lot. he added.

There are greater chances of dew later – Aakash Chopra

Chopra said batsmen can turn their early starts into huge scores if they survive with the new ball. The cricketer turned commentator believes the side will choose to bowl after they win that, but if India gets a chance to bat first they will put another huge total on the board.

“The batters have a field day if the conditions are not bowler friendly because there is no challenge at all. The new ball swings a little at first, but after that, only the bat swings. If you play out the first seven to ten overs, which India will also have to do, the order of batting that does not have the name of stopping begins.

“There will be similar expectations from this match. You want to bowl first after winning the coin toss, you generally don’t want to bat first as there is more chance of dew later. I wouldn’t be surprised if you get another score of 350+ sees India go first.”
