Former India National Cricket Team batsman Ajay Jadeja believes that the No. 1 ranked T20I batsman, Suryakumar Yadav, uses his wrists much better when batting than legendary South African batsman AB de Villiers.
Many compare Suryakumar to AB de Villiers for his amazing shot making ability and he is also nicknamed India’s Mr. Got 360. However, his recent T20I century against Sri Lanka has sparked talk that he was arguably better than De Villiers at his peak.

Suryakumar played a spectacular knock in series decider 3rd T20I against Dasun Shanaka led Team Sri Lanka and helped Team India win the match and series at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Saturday, January 7.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Ajay Jadeja said that Suryakumar’s power play might not be as strong as De Villiers or Andre Russell, but he still has a better hit rate in T20Is and is more consistent because of the way he uses his wrists.

“AB de Villiers was one of the best we’ve ever seen, but he (Suryakumar’s) consistency is something more. AB probably had a bit more power in his game, but what he (Suryakumar) adds is the wrist work, which AB didn’t have. The angles he found were because of his wrists. Either way, his wrists work better than AB,” Jadeja said on Cricbuzz.
“Even while swiping, he uses the entire arm and then his wrists. They are probably superior to the power hitters we’ve seen. We’re talking about enjoying watching people like Andre Russell hit it hard, but here’s a guy who probably scores with better stroke rate and is more consistent. He’s strong, but not as strong as everyone would like to be.”
He plays with the mind of the bowler, the opponent, the field – Ajay Jadeja on Suryakumar Yadav
Jadeja also said that the 32-year-old middle-class batter likes to play with the opponent.
“He’s timing it and he’s playing with you, not the ball. He’s playing with the mind of the bowler, the opponent, the pitch; the best strategy against him is to just go out and just stand randomly anywhere you want. It will be the same score or he may get confused,” he said.
Jadeja went on to say that the only way to stop Suryakumar from scoring would be to make random field placements that might confuse him.
“All the big players have had great runs, but after a while they slow down or go even faster. When this happens the pitch will change it because I don’t think there’s a ball that hasn’t been tried against him. Now you have to make him think. In the IPL I wouldn’t be surprised if a few teams come up with completely random fields. There’s just no other choice,” he said.
Suryakumar Yadav crushed Sri Lanka bowlers across the park in Rajkot and scored his third T20I ton off 45 balls. Suryakumar Yadav hit 112* runs off 51 balls, including 7 fours and 9 sixes, to help Team India put a massive 228/5 on the board as he batted first. Notably, Suryakumar became the first-ever non-opener to crush 3 T20I centuries.
