IND vs WI: The time has come for the selectors to choose: Saba Karim on the choice between Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Hooda


Choosing between Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Hooda as Team India’s backup choice for the upcoming T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup is likely the right one at the moment, according to former Indian wicketkeeper Saba Karim.

Karim stressed the importance of the number 3 spot in Twenty20 matches and believes Virat Kohli will be Team India’s first choice for that position.

Iyer struggles to impress while playing at number 3 in the current West Indies series. His recent T20I performance was generally below average.

‘Hooda must be played in position three’: Saba Karim

Saba Karim emphasized the value of getting Deepak Hooda of Iyer ready for the No. 3 position as a backup to Kohli in an interview with India News Sports on Friday. He said,

“When Virat Kohli is available, he will enter the grid at number 3. However, the time has come for the selectors to select a backup mid-range batsman. If they have faith in Shreyas Iyer, they should keep casting him and wait for him to get back in shape.” said Saba Karim.

“But if they are still testing things, Hooda should be in position three. Besides, he can play well with the ball, which is a great asset to Team India.” Added Saba Karim.
