As the stars shine this week in Florida, there is another trophy up for grabs on Enchantment Island.
It’s the first week of 2021 with two concurrent PGA Tour events, as the best players in the world will flock to Concession for the WGC-Workday Championship while those who haven’t made the WGC Cup will instead head to the Puerto Rico Open. It’s a tournament that saw a number of notable players shine before they stood out, from recent winners (Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland) to recognizable finalists (Jason Day in 2009, Jordan Spieth in 2013, Bryson DeChambeau in 2017) .
This week’s field has a decidedly international flavor, with each of the top six favorites coming from outside the U.S. This list is topped by Belgium’s Thomas Pieters, who shone at the 2016 Ryder Cup but remains on the hunt for his first victory on the PGA Tour. Another European Ryder Cup veteran, Ian Poulter, is not far behind, while Andrew Putnam is among the best Americans.
