Mumbai Indians take on the Chennai Super Kings in a critical clash in Dubai on Sunday to mark the resumption of the 2021 IPL, which was postponed indefinitely to May due to the devastating second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in India. CSK is ranked second on the points table with 10 points while MI is fourth with 8 points in seven games.
It’s an important game for Rohit Sharma and his team as they look to launch another campaign to complete a title hat-trick and add to their jackpot of five total IPL titles. MI won last season in the UAE with a streak of dominating performances to break their curse of not winning the trophy in consecutive years.
The fact that the Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in the tournament is not only established by the fact that they have won the most titles, but also by their impressive record against most teams. Mumbai holds the record for the team with the most wins against a particular opponent in league history. MI has beaten KKR 22 times in 28 matches.
Rohit Sharma’s team now have the opportunity to add another landmark to this list. If they beat CSK on Sunday it will be their 20th victory against MS Dhoni’s side. This would lead to Mumbai occupying the top two places in the list of teams with the most wins against a particular opponent. It will also make MI the only team in IPL history to have won 20 or more matches against two opponents.
CSK have beaten MI 12 times and want to improve their record by denying MI a victory on Sunday.
