Haryana police said on Thursday they had arrested a member of the military for allegedly passing on secret information to Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.
Rohit Kumar was arrested Wednesday evening on denunciation, he added.
Kumar is a resident of Kodwa Khurd village in Naraingarh region, Ambala district. Currently, he is employed as Havaldar in an army engineer regiment in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, police said.
He had come to his village a few days ago on leave, said senior police officer Hamid Akhtar.
Mr. Akhtar said the police received information about Kumar and on the basis of which he was taken into custody.
During questioning, it emerged that he was in contact with a Pakistani agent and shared secret information and photographs with the Pakistani intelligence agency, he said.
He said Kumar’s two cell phones, which were used to share information, were seized.
Police will check all details of his cell phones, he added.
Mr Akhtar said Kumar joined the military in 2012 and had been engaged in espionage activities since 2018.
Police said during questioning, Kumar confessed that he shared certain information with the Pakistani intelligence agency.
A case has been registered against him under the provisions of the Official Secrets Act, they said.
