Jammu and Kashmir: A major success for the security forces, a Pakistan-sponsored narco-terrorist module has been arrested and a terrorist associate has been arrested. In a joint operation with the army, the police recovered 9 kg of heroin worth Rs 50-60 crores from the international market recovered from him.
The terrorist’s associate has been identified as Mukhtar Husain Shah of Panjtaran Karnah in Kupwara, Kashmir.
“The other people involved in the flight have been identified and efforts are being made to arrest them,” said a police officer.
SSP Kupwara Dr. GV Sundeep said, “We broke the Narco module sponsored by Pakistan one person namely mukhtar shah is arrested we recovered 9 kg of heroin with an international market value of Rs 50-60 crore”.
The SSP also said it has been tracking this group for the past week.
“Mukhtar was in contact with terrorists sponsored by Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). These drug traffickers provide financial assistance to terrorist groups in Kashmir, ”he added.
The module was closely linked with Pakistan-based Terrorism Managers and were involved in drug trafficking and financially assisting active terrorists in the valley. The recoveries also revealed the interdependence between drug traffickers and terrorists, police said. The module worked for terrorists to step up their activities in the valley and to deceive and motivate local youth in the valley to join the ranks of the militants.
A case falling under the relevant sections of the law has been registered at the Karnah District Police Station and further investigation is underway. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to verify details of the links between the defendants and terrorist groups, radicals, smugglers and other anti-national elements.
