President Joe Biden responded during his Philadelphia address on Thursday by reminding everyone that loud critics have their place, too. (Watch the video below.)
“They have a right to be outrageous,” he said. “This is a democracy.”
Protesters could be heard shouting “Fuck Joe Biden” and “Let’s go, Brandon” (a coded phrase with the same F-word sentiment), The Hill reported.
Biden noted that “democracy is not perfect” and acknowledged “those people you hear over there on the other side. … They have a right to be outrageous. This is a democracy.”
He also sings the hecklers. “Good manners are nothing they’ve ever had to deal with, but history and common sense tell us that opportunity, freedom and justice for all are most likely to happen in a democracy.”
People on Twitter praised Biden’s responses, including one who wrote, “Now that’s how it’s done.”
