Kaduna LG election: faulty voting machines spoil polls due to low turnout

Electronic voting machines (EVMs) scheduled for the four remaining municipal elections scheduled for today in Kaduna state failed to recognize some voter cards.

Recall that KADSIECOM postponed the elections of the local government of Kaduna in four local governments; Kajuru, Chikun, Birnin Gwari, Kauru as of September 25, 2021 (today) due to a security threat.

But as accreditation and voting were about to begin, the voting machines at Kajuru LGA could not choose, and unable to print.

Besides the breakdown of voting machines, some voters were completely absent when they visited their farms, while others met their immediate needs without recognizing the local government elections.

As a result, only a few voters showed up. Some of those who voted at Kajuru LGA were disappointed because of the breakdown of the voting machine.

Most of the places visited in the districts of Kajuru, Mararaba, I0don, Kasuwan Magani and KUFANA were completely empty, deserted by some voters who are anxious for engineers to carry out repairs on the failing machines.

Polling officer Ms. Juliana Barde said: “We haven’t started accreditation and voting because the machine can’t print.

“And we are trying to reach our poll supervisor to inform him of the challenges, but we cannot reach him,” he added.

At the Peter Laki voting unit, voting had not yet started as the EVM was also acting incorrectly, especially on the date and time set.
