Kangana Ranaut announces ‘Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda’, to play ‘Queen of Kashmir’


Actress Kangana Ranaut will star in the second installment of the Manikarnika franchise, titled Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda.

Kangana made the announcement on her verified Twitter account @KanganaTeam in Hindi. She wrote: “Humara bharatvarsh sakshi raha hai Jhansi Ki Rani jaisi kai viranganao ki kahaani ka. Aisi hi ek aur ankahi veergatha hai Kashmir ki ek rani ki, jisne Mahmood Ghaznavi ko ek haar ba kar. main #ManikarnikaReturns: The legend of Didda.

Sources close to development have revealed that the new film will be bigger and internationally mounted, adding that the team intends to build a world-class franchise of real female heroes. The idea is to bring in forgotten female heroes who built Bharat’s true identity, the sources added.

Kangana and producer Kamal Jain will team up to bring the franchise back, following Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi in 2019. The actress had a reunion with Jain last week and locked their new storyline.

Didda was the Queen of Kashmir who beat Mehmood Ghaznavi twice in battle. Her leg was stricken with polio, but she was one of the greatest warriors.

Kangana plans to fulfill her ongoing commitments first, and then start filming on the new film in January 2022.
