Producer and filmmaker Karan Johar feels that his production house Dharma Productions doesn’t get credit for making unique films like Brahmastra and Kapoor & Sons and is constantly questioned for not doing anything other than extravagant romantic and family dramas.
Speaking at the trailer launch of Dharma’s upcoming movie Govinda Naam Mera, Karan said, “Everyone has their own perception of what we’re making, they’ve created the idea that Dharma will only make a certain (kind of movies) no matter how many times we’ve busted that myth with our movies. Every time we made another movie, we had to scream at the top of our lungs to tell them we’d done something different. We don’t get credit.”
Speaking at the event, which was attended by the upcoming cast of movie stars including Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar, Johar added, “We made a huge mainstream Brahmastra, we also made a Kapoor & Sons. I got Kabhi Khushi Kabhi directed. Gham, and I also made My Name Is Khan, but still every time I get the question ‘aap kuch alag kab karoge’.”

“This Govinda Naam Mera is different and we are proud of it. I am always looking for good stories, when that comes to my table I am excited. It is known to all that we are always looking for great content , it doesn’t matter what the genre is or what the syntax of the movie is,” concludes the director.
Speaking of Govinda Naam Mera, the upcoming crime comedy is slated for a direct-to-digital release on the Disney+ Hotstar streaming platform starting December 16th. The film is written and directed by Shashank Khaitan who previously helmed Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Dhadak for Dharma Productions.
