Show today presenter Karl Stefanovic has been criticized by the media for an alleged attack that allegedly took place during a charity function in Brisbane.
The 48-year-old attended the event in Newstead in August with his wife Jasmine to raise money for and awareness of melanoma.
The courier post reports that a waiter at the Mercedes-Benz cancer gala claimed he had been “touched” by Stefanovic and filed a complaint with police.
A Queensland Police Department spokesman declined to comment, but said: TBEN newspaper Police on that date were investigating a report of an alleged incident in Newstead.
“Queensland Police are investigating a report of the alleged assault of a man in a Newstead case during an event on Saturday, August 20,” a spokesman said.
“As the investigation is still ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
News Corp outlets report that the Nine Network would not comment and Stefanovic’s lawyers were approached for comment and declined.
the Australian newspaper says it has contacted several attendees who did not see an altercation taking place.
One person who was there told the paper that Karl seemed to be in a good mood and “was a legend all the time.”
“Everything seemed chilly, I even saw him when he left with everyone at the end and said goodbye as if nothing had happened. I certainly did not see a single incident during the event,” the newspaper quoted as saying.
The fundraiser organized by The Six-Hour Project raised $290,000 for The Mater Foundation and Melanoma Institute of Australia.
The Six-Hour Project highlights the fact that every six hours an Australian dies of melanoma and is “on a mission to change this devastating statistic”.
The six-hour dinner, A Night For Melanoma, was the biggest fundraiser of the year.
Karl and his wife posted photos from the event, with Karl snapping himself with organizer and melanoma survivor Gina Savage, whom he has interviewed on the show.
“Gina, courage, resilience and beauty. We just lifted the roof for you, your fights, your charity and everyone else fighting melanoma,” he wrote.
Jasmine posted a photo of the couple “celebrating the incredible @ginasavage1 and all that battling melanoma”
“What grace, courage and light, inspiration to so many,” she wrote.
Stefanovic was recently in London to report on the Queen’s funeral and returned to Australia on Wednesday.
