Karnataka: 66 medical students in university hostels test positive for COVID-19 amid third wave fear


As schools and colleges have started to reopen in the country amid declining COVID-19 cases, there are reports that up to 66 students have tested positive for COVID-19 at two hostels in the country. SDM College of Medical Sciences located at Manjusreenagar in Dharwad, Karnataka.

Speaking to the media, Dharwad District Collector Nitish Patil said: “At least 60 students from SDM College of Medical Sciences in Dharwad have tested positive for COVID-19. Test reports from 100 more students are awaited. Two foyers at the college have been sealed, “Patil says.

All students continue their MBBS course at SDM Medical College. Forty of them had attended a meeting a few days ago organized in the premises of the college. All of the students received two doses of the vaccination and are not showing any symptoms of COVID-19 infection.

Meanwhile, Karnataka on Thursday reported 306 new cases of COVID-19, 224 recoveries and two deaths. With this, the total number of cases in the state rose to 29,941,561. The total death toll in the state stands at 38,187.
