Kate Langbroek reveals her family of six could be stranded in Italy for Christmas as they can’t get flights to Melbourne – unless they split up for travel or quarantine in AUCKLAND

Kate Langbroek is stuck in Bologna, Italy, where she has been with her husband and children for the past year.

The radio star is hoping she and her family can return to their hometown of Melbourne by Christmas, but the pandemic has resulted in limited flights and the journey home is complex.

The 55-year-old told the Hughsey and Ed show this week that Melbourne is accepting returning passengers on December 7 – but there is a catch.

“Now we’re in the mad scrabble game. We lost our flight so now we have to get back to the queue.

The only thing we can hope for is that there aren’t many Australians starting from Bologna. We may have to go to Milan, ”she said.

There is no guarantee that the family will be able to fly, and after having already had canceled flights, they risk facing Christmas in Italy – or going their separate ways.

Even so, there are only 160 people accepted per day – less than a full plane, meaning the family of six will likely have to split up and take different planes.

“ Yesterday we got a message saying you can’t travel together at six, but we can probably bring you three people on a flight, if you’re ready to go tomorrow, ” she said.

Even after the family gets on the plane, the way home is a “ mess, ” Kate told the radio show.

“ There are complicated routes like coming back via Auckland and doing your quarantine in Auckland, then flying to Brisbane. Everything is messy! she says.

Kate and her 17-year-old husband Peter moved to Bologna with their four children, Lewis, Sunday, Artie and Jan, in January 2019.

It was supposed to be a ‘family gap year’, but they decided to extend the hiatus for another 12 months before the coronavirus was declared a pandemic.
