Indian shuttle Kidambi Srikanth announced on Thursday that he was withdrawing from the ongoing Thailand Open due to muscle strain in his calf.
Kidambi was expected to lock the horns against Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia in the second round, but with the withdrawal of the Indian shuttle Jia has progressed in the tournament.
“Very sad to tell all of you that I was advised to withdraw from the Thailand Open due to muscle strain in my calf. I hope to be in good shape by next week for the next round. from Thailand, ”Srikanth tweeted.

On Wednesday, Srikanth advanced to the second round of the Thailand Open after a comfortable victory over compatriot Sourabh Verma.
Sourabh failed to clear the opening hurdle, losing to Kidambi 21-12, 21-11 in straight sets.
Kidambi, who shared photos of his bleeding nose on Tuesday following the ‘unacceptable’ treatment he received in coronavirus testing, sealed an easy victory in a match that lasted only 31 minutes .
Earlier today, Satwiksairaj’s men’s doubles Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty pulled out of the Thailand Open after falling in a second round loss. The duo were beaten by the Indonesian duo of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in consecutive matches 21-19, 21-17.
Saina Nehwal will be in action later Thursday in her second round match.
