The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by nine wickets in Game 31 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Monday. Chasing a 93 goal, KKR openers Shubman Gill and debutant Venkatesh Iyer scored 82 points for the opening wicket as they crossed the line with 10 overs to spare. Gill missed half a century by just two points as he was caught at 48. Venkatesh Iyer hit the winning points and went undefeated on 41.
Earlier, Kohli had won the draw and opted to beat Eoin Morgan-led KKR at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The decision backfired when fashion designer Prasidh Krishna sent him packing for five with a swinger who wrapped the RCB skipper on the pads. After giving LBW by the referee on the field, Kohli went for an exam, but reruns confirmed that the ball would have cut the stump of the leg.
Lockie Ferguson dismissed Devdutt Padikkal in the sixth. He remained the top scorer with a 22-point stroke.
KKR bowlers shot in unison as Andre Russell and Varun Chakravarthy picked up three wickets apiece while Ferguson took two wickets to eliminate RCB for 92 in 19 overs.
Kyle Jamieson, Yuzvendra Chahal and Wanindu Hasaranga have all proven to be costly, giving points over 10 points per set.
Chahal managed to get the wicket from Shubman Gill, but not before the young opener made 82 points with Venkatesh Iyer.
Varun Chakravarthy was named player of the match for his three-for-13 spell.
With the win, KKR moved up to fifth place in the IPL 2021 points table while RCB remains in third place despite a heavy loss in Abu Dhabi.
