Chelsea have joined Manchester United in the race for Sevilla center-back Jules Kounde, according to reports in Spain.
Kounde has established himself as one of La Liga’s best defenders since leaving his native France in 2019. The former Bordeaux center-back was a key part of the Sevilla squad that won the Europa League last season and continues to be influential this quarter.
At the age of 22, it seems clear that Kounde’s long-term future will be far from Sevilla. He has the potential to play for a European giant – and links with Man Utd have persisted for some time.
United are on the hunt for the perfect partner for Harry Maguire at the back. Doubts remain about Victor Lindelof, while Eric Bailly seems unstable at the club.
A recent report suggests they have reduced their shortlist and Kounde is one of the names that remains in contention. However, United are not his only potential destination.
According to La Colina De Nervion, Chelsea have now entered the battle for Kounde.
The Blues are looking for a long-term successor to Thiago Silva. The Brazilian is out of contract at the end of the season, but has impressed and can benefit from a one-year extension.
Even so, Chelsea will still have to find younger competition for him and they don’t come much better than Kounde.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are said to have expressed interest, leaving Seville prepared for a bidding war. But this is something that will actually be welcomed by the Spanish side, which could raise huge funds as well.

Sevilla plan to only let Kounde go if they can make it the most expensive sale in history. Their current record start was £ 36million, but Kounde will likely cost a lot more than that.
However, many top European teams are ready to make an effort to sign him. Chelsea is one of them and he is seen as the perfect solution to their defensive dilemma.
They will again need to demonstrate financial strength to stand a chance of winning the race for his signature.
Kounde has several suitors
Another Kounde admirer is Manchester City, who tried to sign him before getting Ruben Dias last summer.
Considering Dias’ impact, they won’t regret this decision too much, but it looks like Kounde is still on their radar.
La Colina De Nervion to add that the three La Liga title challengers – Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona – are also excited. In addition, the champions of the leagues of France, Italy and Germany (PSG, Juventus and Bayern Munich) are in contention.
Seville is aware of the interest in its price. In fact, it is even claimed that Kounde is the most requested player in world football after Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.
Whoever gets it will have a great player in their hands and Chelsea are the last to hope that it will be them.
