India’s active cases of COVID-19 rose for the fifth day in a row and broke the 1.5 lakh mark again after a 17-day gap, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health on Monday, so that the total infections crossed 1.10 crore.

With 14,199 new infections reported in one day, the overall coronavirus tally stood at 1,10,05,850, while the death toll rose to 1,56,385 with 83 new deaths per day, according to data updated at 8 in the morning.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the surge in active cases is due to the fact that Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh have reported a spike in daily infections.
