Despite what I always say when I try to get dressed, I actually do doing have a lot of clothes. I also have a lot of pets (nine to be exact!), so I tend to do my laundry more than the average person. That said, doing the laundry is probably my least favorite chore. That’s why I was really excited when LG offered me to try the brand’s new “smart” washer and dryer duo (sold separately).

I’ve been using the brand’s two new models, the WM6700HBA washing machine and DLX670 natural gas dryer for over a month now, and I can honestly say I’m no longer afraid to do laundry – I almost look forward to it. In addition to being stackable (a great space saving feature!), they also work side by side. You can connect both devices through the LG ThinQ app and the dryer will adjust the settings to match the load detected in the washer. That’s just one of the innovative and thoughtful features of these appliances that turn laundry into simple yet high-tech convenience. Honestly, the washer and dryer even sound like the calming wave setting on my sound machine – yes, really.

Less than $1600

The WM6700HBA washing machine is equipped with a whole range of smart and AI powered cleaning settings: Normal, AI Wash, Bedding, Delicates, Towels, Quick Wash, Heavy DuKids Weary, AllergieneTM, Perm Press, Swimwear, Clean, Bright Whites™, Rinse +SpinHand/wool, spin only, activewear, kidswear, jeans, dresses, color care, sweat stains, small load, large load and X large load. It is also designed with AI sensors that detect the level of dirt for each load, allowing it to be cleaned effectively and in less time.

The washer and dryer are both absurd energy efficient, costing about less than $20 a year to run each. You can choose from a wide variety of modes, and even within each mode you can adjust different aspects of the washing or drying cycle (temperature, duration, spin intensity, etc.). I particularly loved the ‘Quick Wash’ and ‘Quick Dry’ features as they allow you to wash and dry relatively small loads without unnecessary waste by adjusting the cycle time, amount of detergent, amount of water and energy consumption accordingly.

More impressively, both systems come with an AI sensing mode in which the washer and dryer, respectively, automatically detect the size and nature of the laundry in the load and adjust their settings accordingly. This duo is even more amazing when paired with the LG Styler (a smart steam cabinet), which can freshen up all those things you can’t put in the washer or dryer. However, if you don’t have the Styler, the smart gas dryer is also designed with a Quick Steam function, which steam cleans your clothes, linens, pillows, shoes, etc. in just ten minutes while reducing wrinkles.

The next level dryer has a host of advanced settings and features including Normal, AI Dry, Bedding, Delicates, Towels, Quick Dry, Timed Dry, Antibacterial, Perm Press, SteamFresh™, Heavy Duty, Air Dry, Steam Sanitary™ , Super Dry, Low Temperature Dry, Overnight Dry, Easy Iron, Small Load, Large Load Dry and X Large Load Dry. My favorite feature has to be SteamFresh. It allows me to disinfect my oversized weighted duvet without getting it wet and refresh clothes that need a little wrinkle-free or refreshed.

It may seem minimal, but the time it saves doing laundry is just the beginning; it smells fantastic and cleans even the dirtiest clothes. I was even able to fully wash and dry my machine-washable Ruggable rug with ease, something my previous washing machine from the 2000’s was whole couldn’t handle, sent me to the laundromat nearby with its commercial machines.

In addition to the features that allow the pair to communicate with each other, you can even remotely start the devices using your phone using LG’s ThinQ app. While it can’t automatically move your recently washed load to the dryer just yet, that’s really all you need to do in the laundry process with this pair. Push notifications will alert you when cycles are complete, when you need to clean the dryer vent, and even when you’ve left a wet load of clothes in the washer for too long (a feature that’s essential for cleaning laundry in my house ).

Honestly, the features and benefits of this smart washer and dryer pair from LG are endless, and while the price tag may be higher than other manufacturers’ models, you’ll realize every penny was worth it when washing gets really fun. This is truly the future of laundry. Now, if he could only fold them…!
