There’s a new famous chef in town!
Manhattan fine dining restaurant INTERSECT BY LEXUS NYC will open its seventh in-residence restaurant, Compère Lapin de New Orleans, on October 20. James Beard owner and award-winning chef, Nina Compton, will offer her proprietary blend of Gulf Coast and Caribbean ingredients. -inspired flavors for an unparalleled dining experience.
Located in the Old No. 77 Hotel in New Orleans’ warehouse district, Compère Lapin’s beloved Caribbean and New Orleans menu is a taste of home for guests visiting from near or far. At INTERSECT, guests can sample a variety of dishes from Chef Compton, as well as a specially curated tasting menu, “Taste of Two Creoles,” offered exclusively at the New York Restaurant.
Menu highlights include the tamarind pork belly set on a green chutney and topped with pickled mango and herbs, Escovitch striped bass set on jerk carrots and carrot butter blanc and Doberge cake served with milk. lemon curd and served with lemon buttermilk sorbet.
The inspiration for the menu comes from the traditional Caribbean tales that Chef Compton read as a child in St. Lucia. Drawing on themes of exploration and play, it blends indigenous ingredients and New Orleans’ rich heritage with those of its Caribbean roots, creating a culinary journey across the menu.
The Compère Lapin beverage program at INTERSECT will complete the experience with cocktails like Andromeda with Pisco, Green Chili Vodka, Lime, Grapefruit, Rose and Stenciled Peychaud’s Bitters Rabbit and The Macondo with Tequila, Sotol Por Siempre, Aperol, carrot and mango. To support Compère Lapin’s hometown, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank in New Orleans.
Compère Lapin opened in 2015 and is the first solo restaurant from Chef Nina Compton, who received Best Chef: South at the 2018 James Beard Awards.
