A vital Liverpool cog and a Leeds Utd midfielder retain a keen interest in have emerged on the January radar of Serie A giants Inter Milan.
The Reds are currently in the midst of a crippling injury crisis.
The long-term injuries of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez grabbed the headlines. Their midfielder, however, did not fare much better. Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all experienced spells on the treatment table this season.
In contrast, a player who has always been present has been a Dutch veteran Georginio wijnaldum.
The 30-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Anfield, however, and no concrete signs of extending his stay have emerged – despite the latest rumored offer.
Reports surfaced earlier in the week of Antonio Conte’s Inter side have shown interest in Klopp’s favorite.
Now these reports have been backed by an Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.
The publication (via Goal), note that Wijnaldum would be the perfect candidate for a free agent swoop this summer.
With his impending free agency, Wijnaldum will be able to negotiate his future leadership in January.
Leeds target inter plot raid
In addition, the Italian side could be brought to provoke Leeds Utd a headache on their pursuit of Rodrigo De Paul.
The 26-year-old Argentine was heavily linked with a stint at Elland Road this summer.
Suggested recent reports Marcelo Bielsa aimed to convince the club to launch a new approach for the dynamic box-to-box player of Udinese.
Indeed, a Leeds chief offered to confirm details of his interest in the summer last week.
Now, Corriere dello Sport (via Goal) threw a wrench into the work by reporting that the failure is “considered interesting” the Nerazzurri.
His asking price of € 30-35million is rumored to be difficult for Inter to overcome, however.
