A shopkeeper allegedly killed a young man over a dispute over payment for Gutka (betel-quid) in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district, police said on Saturday. The incident took place on Friday in the colony of Lalitpur in Kampoo Police Station. The deceased was identified as Subhash (24), a resident of the colony of Lalitpur.
The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the crime scene. Gwalior SP Vijay Bhadoria said the boy bought Gutka in a shop and had a dispute about payment with the shopkeeper for a long time. In another flare-up over the dispute on Saturday, the shopkeeper and his son attacked the boy with an iron bar, police said, adding that the latter died at the scene.
Police registered a case in the case and arrested both suspects. Further investigation is underway, police said. According to locals, Subash used to get gutka packages from the store without paying any money for them. Friday he again asked for a free gutka.
When an argument broke out, the shopkeeper, Karan Singh Yadav, called his son Sachin to the shop, police said, adding that they hit Subhash with iron bars. The boy sank to the ground in a pool of blood. He was rushed to Jayrogya Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead, police said.
