Maharashtra man dies by suicide after killing his wife: police


No suicide note was found in the house, police said.


A 28-year-old man is said to have killed his wife and then committed suicide at their home in Palghar district, Maharashtra, police said on Sunday.

The incident came to light on Friday evening after some of the couple’s neighbors alerted police when they saw no lights in their home in the Vasai area here, they said.

Police opened the door to the house and found the woman, Jyoti Chavan (23), lying dead on a bed and her husband, Rahul Chavan, hanging from a hook in the ceiling in the hall, Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar, inspector of police deputy to Commissioner Archana Dit Dusane.

No suicide note was found in the house, she said.

The official said he was suspected the man first killed his wife and then ended her own life.


The man worked as a security guard at a metro station in the Andheri district of neighboring Mumbai, she said.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem and her report is pending, she said, adding that as of now, police have registered one case of accidental death.
