Man shoots and kills 18-year-old ‘found in bed’ with youthful cousin: police

A 20-year-old man in Harris County, Texas, has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing an 18-year-old boy on Friday.

The suspect, identified by Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies as Daniel Hines, allegedly shot the victim, identified as Curtis Mobley, multiple times outside a home in Spring, Texas, at about 11:10 a.m. Friday. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a statement on Twitter.

Sergeant Ben Beall of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said a woman called 911 Friday from a home on Blodgett Peak Trail, KPRC reported.

The woman told officers she allegedly found the 18-year-old victim in bed with her underage daughter, according to investigators. The victim may have been the minor’s ex-boyfriend, TBEN 13 reported.

The mother said she informed her cousin, who was home at the time. According to Beall, the cousin and the victim got into a gunfight outside the house.

“She called 911 and said she found an 18-year-old man, the victim, in bed with her underage daughter. She notified her cousin, who was at the residence, who was apparently engaged in a gunfight with the victim,” Beall told KPRC.

A house across the street was hit by gunfire several times, but no one in that home was injured, sheriff Gonzalez said.

Beall said 14 to 15 fired shell casings were found at the scene.

Mobley was found unresponsive in the driveway with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but later died of his injuries.

Hines was not injured. He was taken to the HCSO’s Homicide Division for questioning and was later arrested charged.

When asked how confident they felt in the reports they received about what happened, Beall said, “We have no confidence at all.”

He said they have “received several versions of what was called 911 and what she told us happened” and are still trying to figure out the correct story, according to TBEN 13.

“The man who was in the young daughter’s bedroom was armed with a gun,” Beall said, according to KPRC. “The 18 year old (sic) cousin, he was armed with a gun, so at this point we will have to get a story from him and he will have to raise the issue of self-defense. ”

Beall said the victim was gathering his things to leave, was polite and was outside the house when he was killed, TBEN 13 reported.

Hines and two other people, including his aunt, were all taken for questioning. Hines was later arrested and charged with murder.

The investigation is underway. Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact HCSO Homicide at 713-274-9100 or CrimeStoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
