Manchester United ‘will compete with rivals Liverpool for Ibrahima Konate’ as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer considers £ 33million defender RB Leipzig to replace Eric Bailly ‘frustrated’
- Liverpool were in pole position to clinch Ibrahima Konate this summer
- The defender has a £ 33million release clause at RB Leipzig
- But Manchester United may seek to strike deal to bolster defense
- Eric Bailly had become frustrated with his lack of first-team chances at the club
Manchester United are reportedly considering validating Liverpool’s bid to land RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate this summer, in light of Eric Bailly’s replacement.
Konate has been a long-standing target for Jurgen Klopp, with the Reds hoping to land the France Under-21 defender in the next transfer window for around £ 33million.
But according to Eurosport, they may have to fight Manchester United for his services, with their bitter rivals now having the highly rated center-back ‘on their radar’.

Although United have already shown interest in Konate, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can now take his interest further as he considers refreshing his four full-backs.
The report claims that while many at Old Trafford see Bailly as part of United’s strongest defensive pair with Harry Maguire, Solskjaer has tended to favor Victor Lindelof alongside the England international.
Bailly only has a year left on his contract, and although the club are keen to extend that, they are increasingly ‘frustrated’ by his lack of first-team chances with Inter Milan now monitoring the situation .

United are also considering other options in the transfer market, including Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, but Konate could be their ideal choice this summer.
Liverpool have long admired the 21-year-old and have been the favorites to land him in recent weeks, eager to complete his move before the transfer window opens.
Jurgen Klopp has been facing a crunch at the back all season, with injuries to both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
As Leipzig is unable to sell, any buyer will have to pay Konate’s £ 33million (€ 40million) release clause, rather than trying to negotiate a lower asking price.
