South Africa head coach Mark Boucher has decided to resign after the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup. Mark Boucher was appointed head coach in December 2019 and would remain on until ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The former wicketkeeper batter was known for his wicket-keeping skills as he finished with 998 sacks.
Mark Boucher has reportedly been approached by IPL franchises for a coaching role. Boucher was great as the team has had a remarkable test campaign at the moment, the team is 2nd on the World Test Championship table. Cricket South Africa (CSA) would be concerned as they have to find another coach at 11am; because their World Super League points are not that encouraging.
Cricket South Africa on Mark Boucher
CSA Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki noted: “We would like to thank Mark for the time and effort he has invested in South African cricket over the past three years as Head Coach. He has helped us navigate some rough waters after the departure of so many senior players through retirement and helped build a strong foundation for the next generation of Proteas. ”
“We are immensely grateful to him for the work he has done and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”
Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe added: “We are deeply saddened by Mark’s decision to leave us, but we also understand and respect his wishes. He is a Proteas legend and has done so much for the game in our country, both on the pitch and over the past three years off, which we really appreciate.
“He’s built a solid platform for South Africa to thrive in all three formats and I’m sure we’ll see the results of that at the T20 World Cup next month. He already has a solid squad, a squad that is growing in confidence, and we look forward to seeing them in their important series in India before they go to Australia.”
Mark Boucher A man of crisis
Mark Boucher had ended up in a coaching lineup where the team was in serious trouble. Proteas had lost Test Series against India 3-0 and there were a lot of problems. Boucher was someone who always supported the players in difficult times. In 2021, Boucher was accused by Social Justice of supporting racism during his career; however, these charges were removed.
Boucher was great in his tenure as he nearly took South Africa to the semi-finals of the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. The team was learning and there was a killer attitude from the players. The bowling unit becomes so powerful that they can win the match on a flat deck. Boucher’s biggest achievements are winning the ODI series against Australia in 2020 and winning the test series against champions India in 2021.
