Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma overtook MS Dhoni on the Indian Premier League (IPL) most-of-six list on Saturday. Rohit cleared the ropes twice in his 32-point strike against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), bringing his total from six to 217 – one more than Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni. While Rohit occupies third place in the overall standings behind Chris Gayle (351) and AB de Villers (237), he leads the standings when it comes to Indian players.
He is closely followed by Dhoni (216 six) and Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli, who has 201 maximums under his belt in the cash-rich league.
Rohit won the toss and decided to strike and gave his team a strong start, adding 55 points for the opening wicket with Quinton de Kock. De Kock also played a crucial 40-point shot to give Mumbai a great start.
However, as with a game, Rohit got off to a good start but couldn’t convert it to a big score, going 32 out of 25 balls.
SRH bowlers pulled things off mid-game, with Vijay Shankar and Mujeeb Ur Rahman each picking two wickets. Kieron Pollard’s late cameo of 35 on just 22 balls, changed the momentum in Mumbai’s favor as they managed to post 150/5 of their 20 overs.
Pollard ended the Mumbai Indians’ innings by crushing Bhuvneshwar Kumar for two consecutive sixes on the last two balls. With this, he became only the sixth player to hit six in the competition.
