She said before sinking that she was both “excited and terrified at the same time” about the operation, which is not without risks.

Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine that usually develops during the growth spurt phase just before puberty.

Although the disease, which is believed to affect around three percent of adolescents worldwide, can be caused by disorders such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy, the cause of most scoliosis is unknown.

Most cases are mild and resolve naturally, but some deformities of the spine get worse as children get older.

The most severe bends can drastically reduce the space in the chest cavity, making it difficult to breathe.

One of the most famous people to have suffered from scoliosis is Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughter, Princess Eugenie, who was diagnosed at the age of 11.

The daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson underwent corrective surgery a year later and used the resulting scar as inspiration for her wedding dress.
