Mohammad Azharuddin surprises India T20 WC roster, mentions 2 changes he wants in roster

BCCI has named Indian Squad for the highly anticipated 2022 ICC T20 World Cup. According to Mohammad Azharuddin, there were some notable omissions from the squad as Shami & Shreyas were placed on the standby list. It is rather puzzling to see the absence of these two star players from the 15 player roster. In the final 2021 T20 World Cup, Selectors had dropped Chahal by stating that he bowls slower.

Indian Cricket Team failed to reach the final of 2022 Asian Cup. There were very high hopes for the team as they had successful tours of England and the West Indies. BCCI would know that India has not won the ICC T20 World Cup since the start of IPL and the 15 year drought does not look good for the richest board.

Mohammad Azharuddin on selection

The former Indian captain was quite confused after the absence of Shami & Shreyas. He wrote on his Twitter handle:Shreyas Iyer instead of Deepak Hooda and Md. Shami instead of Harshal Patel would be my choice“.

Questionable selection of selection committee

Shami’s exclusion can prove to be a costly affair as he has the gift of breaking a partnership. Head Coach Rahul Dravid & Captain Rohit Sharma should be asked why he has not been part of the squad since 2021 T20 World Cup. The bowler has very good control over his line and height and most importantly he can be a force to be reckoned with to keep up with the fast and resilient fields of Australia.

We have all seen that India has prioritized an Arshdeep Singh & Harshal Patel for angle and variations. The opposition teams can knock out Bhuvneshwar Kumar & Jasprit Bumrah and target the 3rd seam and that could be the turning point. Last time Shreyas Iyer was not selected because he was not 100% fit and this time his absence doesn’t sound too good. He is someone who can play long and effective innings; Deepak Hooda got the nod and had a terrible 2022 Asia Cup, which doesn’t sound right.
