Monaco center-back Benoit Badiashile has confirmed Manchester United made an offer to sign him last summer, but insists he does not regret that a transfer did not materialize.
The 19-year-old, who came on the scene two years ago for the Ligue 1 club, was reportedly put on a £ 22million offer from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in September.
But France Under-21 international Badiashile believes it was the ‘right decision’ to stay at Monaco – he has since made 25 Ligue 1 appearances this season, with the club sitting fourth in the table and six Lille points, first.
Benoit Badiashile (L) from Monaco confirmed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (R) interest in him
‘It was the right choice [to stay at Monaco], first of all, I haven’t had good seasons since I’ve been in Monaco, ” Badiashile told the French channel RMC Sport.
“ We played to stay in place and now I’m really living the top of the table and I think continuing with the club that trained me was the right decision and that is proven by the season that we have. ”
Then, when asked if he had any regrets about missing a move to Manchester, the teenager replied: ‘No, not at all. ”
Badiashile made his first-team debut for Monaco at the age of 17 in a 4-0 loss to PSG in November 2018.
He has since made 70 more appearances for the principality club and is now a regular starter on Niko Kovac’s side.
Badiashile played 90 minutes in Monaco’s victory over Ligue 1 champion PSG on Sunday night
The French contested every 90 minutes as Monaco kept a clean sheet Sunday night at PSG, placing them within two points of the champions.
United have been linked with a number of center-backs in recent weeks, including Seville’s Jules Kounde, Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate.
David Carmo of Braga, Pau Torres of Villarreal and Sven Botman of Lille are other center-backs the Red Devils are interested in, amid speculation that they are considering a new long-term partner for captain Harry Maguire.
United have conceded 32 goals in 25 league games this season, as they look to challenge neighbors City for the title – they are currently ten points behind the fugitive leaders.
