While there have been talks over the past ten years to bring MotoGP to India. The event is now finally going underground. The world’s largest car companies such as Yamaha, Honda, Ducati, KTM and Aprilia will participate in this race. The race is expected to take place in the winter of next year.

The race is likely to be held at the Formula 1 circuit in Greater Noida, which also had the privilege of hosting the F1 races from 2011 to 2013.

The all-electric Formula E race is also coming to Hyderabad in February and if MotoGP can go ahead as planned, Indian motorsport will finally get what it’s desperately waiting for.

Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) announced the development together with commercial partners Dorna Sports on Wednesday (September 21) at an event in New Delhi. An MoU has been signed between FIM, Dorna Sports and Noida-based promoters Fairstreet Sports to host the Bharat Grand Prix for a period of 7 years

Speaking to PTI news agency, Fairstreet Sports COO Pushkar Nath said they have done their homework for the organization of the high-profile race. The promoters claim they have taken into account what went wrong with Formula 1 nine years ago.

Akbar Ebrahim, president of the Indian motorsport federation FMSCI, welcomed the development. “I recently mentioned in our AGM that talks were underway between both parties and we have been kept informed. I also met with the competition promoters. They know what they are doing and what it takes to put on an event of this magnitude.” said Ebrahim.
