Nancy Pelosi announces she will not run for Democratic leadership in the House

Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she will continue to serve in Congress, but no longer in the Democratic House leadership.

Speaker Pelosi said on the House floor:

Now we must face the future with courage, based on the principles that have come this far and open to new possibilities for the future.

Scripture teaches that there is a season for everything, a time for every purpose under heaven. My friends, whatever I tell you, all my colleagues have bestowed on me, speaker leader Whipp, that there is no greater official honor for me than to stand on this floor and speak for the people of San Francisco.

This I will continue to do as a member of the House, speaking for the people of San Francisco, serving the great state of California and defending our Constitution and with great faith in our caucus. I will not seek re-election as Democratic Leadership Congress next time. For me, the hours are coming for a new generation to lead the Democratic caucus I respect so deeply, and I am grateful that so many are ready and willing to take on this awesome responsibility.

Nancy Pelosi is the greatest modern Speaker of the House in US history. She is one of the greatest speakers in the country’s history.

Pelosi’s decision to stay in Congress but not serve in leadership is a best outcome for Democrats. Speaker Pelosi will still be there to advise the new generation of Democratic House leaders, and no one is better at keeping the caucus together, but the Democrats are also getting a new generation of leaders to push the House caucus into the future to bring.
