Senate Speaker Ahmad Lawan on Friday gave Nigerians a condition to vote on members of the current National Assembly, NASS.
Lawan in a speech asked Nigerians to vote against NASS members if they don’t like the current crop of lawmakers.
“Vote with us if you don’t like us,” he said
He challenged Nigerians to get better people as lawmakers in 2023.
The Senate Speaker addressed a retreat for the senior leadership of the National Assembly and National Assembly Services Commission in Abuja.
Lawan also accused Nigerians of not engaging in debates over the high salaries and allowances of federal lawmakers.
“Instead of trying to see how the National Assembly will use 128 billion naira, what the results will be and how useful they are to the Nigerian public, Nigerians are only arguing that the budget should be cut is too much.
“If you don’t like the entire membership of the Ninth National Assembly, change us all in 2023. Get better people, but help the system work,” he said.
Over the years, the hefty take-out package from federal lawmakers has sparked controversy, with many Nigerians claiming lawmakers do not deserve the huge salaries and allowances they bring home.
