National Council extends compulsory corona test for those to be deported

Anyone who is deported should be able to be forced to take a corona test. The National Council has extended the obligation to test until the summer of 2024 – at the urging of the Federal Council.

So that those affected cannot prevent their deportation, they should continue to be able to be forced to take a Covid test. (icon picture)

Asylum seekers who are deported have had to trek to a corona test since last October. They can also be forced against their will. This will not change in the foreseeable future. On Thursday, the National Council extended the obligation to test until the summer of 2024 – at the urging of the Federal Council.

According to the state government, the pandemic situation has stabilized. However, the most important home and Dublin countries as well as airlines continue to require proof of a negative corona test. In order for the cantons to be able to fulfill their enforcement tasks, the legal basis must be extended. The Federal Council sees the obligation to test as a success. Since then, 146 people have been deported.

Anti-Torture Commission rejects compulsory testing

Only the Council Left in the National Council opposed the extension. Céline Widmer (SP/ZH) emphasized that the obligation to test represents a serious encroachment on physical integrity. She sees herself confirmed by the assessment of the Anti-Torture Commission. Based on the observation of specific cases, this had come to the conclusion that the obligation to test was inappropriate.

These arguments went unheard in the great chamber. The tenor in the bourgeois ranks was that the execution of rejected asylum seekers was difficult. In order to prevent deportation, people repeatedly refused a test. Therefore, a test obligation is indicated. (rwa)
