Prime Minister Narendra Modi will announce on September 27 the nationwide deployment of the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM), renamed Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission (PM-DHM).
PM-DHM supports universal health coverage in an efficient, accessible, inclusive, affordable and safe way through the provision of a wide range of data, information and infrastructure services, officials said on Wednesday.
The digital health ID provided to people as part of the PM-DHM will contain the citizen’s health record.
Health ID card is created with details like Aadhaar and cell phone number to generate unique ID for each individual.
PM-DHM is currently in its pilot phase in the Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu, Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
The mission is on track and the three basic platforms – health identification, the register of doctors and the register of health facilities – have been made operational, officials said.
“The main objective of this mission is to improve the efficiency of the health system in India. The national digital health ecosystem will be a one-stop solution for the health needs of ordinary man. The difficulty of maintaining long paper trails, health records, or long queues at health facilities, etc. will no longer be a burden in this digitally driven ecosystem.
“In addition, there will be hassle-free continuity of treatment as access to health records will be just a click away for physicians once patient consent is given. In summary, this initiative will revolutionize the delivery of high-quality services to patients by making healthcare providers more accessible and accountable, ”said an official.
PM Modi’s nationwide deployment of PM-DHM will take place on September 27, officials said.
