The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended Sami Ashoko, a wanted drug lord in the Shinge neighborhood of Nasarawa.
Officers raided his warehouse full of skunks. 100 bags of the illicit drug weighing 1,095.3 kg were seized.
The NDLEA spokesperson, in a statement Tuesday, said Ashoko was caught during the Easter break.
Ashoko, 39, from Ibilo in the Akoko Edo region of Edo, was intercepted after a report by intelligence sources.
The NDLEA commander in Nasarawa, Judge Arinze, reportedly said Ashoko was on the agency’s watch list.
“This seizure broke the previous record of 45 bags weighing about half a ton recovered in January 2021. This is the highest single seizure of cannabis since the creation of the Command in 1999.”
Badamasi and Adamu Abba, members of another cartel in Iyamho, in the Etsako local government area west of Edo were also arrested.
Their illicit shipment, 950 compressed blocks of cannabis, weighing 1330 kg intended for Bauchi, were seized.
Edo NDLEA Commander Buba Wakawa has revealed that the suspects attempted to escape in a white Peugeot J5 space bus with Lagos registration number JJJ 722 XC.
Another trafficker, who supplies drugs to some notorious drug stores in Abuja, was arrested along the Gwagwalada highway.
NDLEA FCT commander Mohammed Salami said the suspect confessed to delivering substances to major drug distribution centers in Abuja.
