There are new ways to purchase travel insurance this year. And they’re right on time. If you are going on a trip in 2021, you will need as many options as possible.
Travel insurance changes almost by the minute. Although people buy it from the same trusted sites, the product has adapted and become more flexible than ever.
Companies added reference material and an AI chatbot or two, streamlined the buying process, and revamped their commitment to customer service. In some cases, you don’t even have to do anything, as travel insurance is included in your reservation.
It’s time, experts say.
“Travelers just want their travel insurance problem to be resolved as simply as possible,” says Damian Tysdal, who hosts the Safe Travels podcast. “Current solutions are confusing, lack information, or are too complicated.”
Where they buy insurance
Ben Carothers, flight coordinator at Global Air Ambulance, says his customers visit proven travel insurance comparison sites for more policy information. These include Travelinsurance.com, Squaremouth.com and InsureMyTrip.com. But in 2021, the big fear is COVID-19, and that takes a little more homework.
“It’s always very important to read the fine print on what’s covered,” he says.
One size does not fit all
“The universal mindset doesn’t work anymore,” says Sasha Gainullin, CEO of battleface, a new insurtech company.
Battleface is working with its reinsurance companies and underwriters to provide more personalized and flexible travel insurance options in 2021. For example, some customers will be able to purchase insurance even after departure (most insurance companies require you to purchase insurance before the start of the trip, and no more than 14 days after booking). They are also developing ways to insure only the individual components of the trip instead of the full value of the trip.
New and improved sites
Some travel insurance companies are modernizing to meet the demands of travelers in 2021. For example, Travel Insured will launch new products that address some of the issues unique to post-pandemic travel.
“Our site also offers up-to-date coverage alerts to help consumers choose the best plans for their travel,” said Sherry Sutton, vice president of marketing at Travel Insured. “It’s also packed with resources like a handy help center for common questions and blogs for travel tips and recommendations.”
The rise of Luna, a travel insurance AI
VisitorsCoverage, which last year introduced a smart AI-based robot named Luna, has improved the interface for 2021, offering a new way to purchase travel insurance. Luna’s goal is to streamline the comparison process so that customers can find the right policy faster and easier.
“People traveling during the pandemic want to be assured of being covered for all COVID-related incidents and scenarios,” says Rajeev Shrivastava, CEO of VisitorsCoverage.
He says AI technology can help clients find the right amount of coverage for all COVID situations. This includes information on testing, reimbursement of quarantine fees, and denial of entry at the border. These may depend on your destination, length of stay, or other factors.
“The Luna smartbot makes what can be a confusing process quick and easy without having to wait to speak to a customer service agent,” adds Shrivastava.
Travel insurance is also changing
Of course, none of these new ways to purchase travel insurance for 2021 would be helpful without the right insurance. To this end, insurance companies have added new plans to meet the needs of travelers.
For example, The Travel Corporation last month introduced new travel protection plans that include COVID-19 coverage and a “cancellation for any reason” benefit. The new plans are available for travel from April 1.
“In both plans, COVID-19 will be considered a Covered Reason if a client is diagnosed with COVID-19 or, under the direction of a government official or medical expert, is required to report to quarantine, ”says Brett Tollman, CEO of The Travel Company.
Make travel insurance easier
Tysdal is about to launch another new way to purchase travel insurance: a site called CoverTrip.com that will feature plain language reviews of various travel insurance companies. It will also focus on the easiest way to find out if you need travel insurance, what it covers, and the best type of plan. CoverTrip will provide a faster way to compare maps and guides for worry-free travel.
Other companies are also trying to simplify the process. Travel Insurance Master, an insurance start-up, has also developed a new way to streamline the purchasing process on its site.
The company has developed an algorithm to recommend the best travel insurance for a traveller’s specific trip. It has partnerships with insurance providers that will allow customers to create a clear, side-by-side comparison so they can see the best value. What’s new on this? The company has reduced everything to three stages. You can also filter the results based on the specific benefits you’re looking for, such as emergency medical care, financial failures, and rental car coverage.
“You can easily find the plan that suits you and make an informed purchase in a few minutes”, declares Chelsea Capwell, spokesperson for Travel Insurance Master.
Travel insurance is included
Some airlines and hotels include travel insurance with your purchase in 2021. For example, Viva Wyndham Resorts, a collection of all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, now includes new hotel assistance insurance on new reservations. . It covers medical costs, telemedicine services, prescriptions, tests and COVID-19 assistance, as well as extended stay or relocation.
A better customer experience too
Businesses are just starting to add new ways to purchase travel insurance. Seven Corners says it is developing new tools, details of which are still under wraps, to guide its customers in 2021. This is part of the company’s Right Way to Travel program, the commitment of Seven Corners customers to providing timely services and useful and innovative products. Improving customer service can be one of the best innovations.
“The goal of these initiatives is to ensure that travelers have the strongest coverage and assistance available when they feel comfortable traveling again in 2021,” said Jeremy Murchland, President by Seven Corners. And who can claim better customer service?
